Breathtaking views
This luxurious home, situated on the southern coast of Rhode Island, boasts breathtaking vistas of a wildlife preserve and a cove adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. Designed by the talented team of Tim Reed and our own Aaron Stallings, this coastal gem stands out with its comprehensive amenities, including an advanced smart technology system featuring an extensive array of Lutron motorized window treatments, an award-winning primary suite, a meticulously designed and controlled lighting system that spans the entire property, and a first-rate AV system that stars video projection in the Primary Bedroom and a Karaoke center in the home’s entertainment wing.
Shades everywhere
The residence takes full advantage of these magnificent views with an abundance of windows enveloping all sides. Most of these windows are paired with industry-standard automatic and manual window treatments from Lutron, allowing for optimal control of privacy, natural light, and climate.
Our shading specification and installation is comprehensive and varied, incorporating layers of roller shades, automated drapery tracks, roman shades, and manual roller shades where appropriate. TSP collaborated closely with local Makkas Drapery to ensure a perfect integration of the “soft” treatments.
What sets this project apart is the early consideration of shade design in the architectural and interior plans. This foresight is reflected in the final documents and planning, resulting in shades that are completely hidden when not in use. The majority of the windows have Lutron pairings, creating a cohesive and elegant solution throughout the home by way of completely hidden shade pockets and elegant box valances and pediments.
Quiet technology
In line with our philosophy of enhancing tranquility through technology, we prioritized quiet operation in all our installations. This is evident throughout the home, where the homeowner’s Buddhist principles and feng shui concepts were implemented. This is evident in the private prayer space, designed for meditation, which features unobtrusive music, lighting, and scene control, all operated through whisper-quiet Lutron systems. Throughout the home, we strived to make technology invisible, allowing the architecture and views to take center stage.
Award-winning primary suite
The homeowner had a strong desire for a top-notch cinematic experience right in the comfort of their primary bedroom. However, achieving this goal posed a significant challenge due to the room’s design, which primarily emphasizes the captivating scenery through plentiful windows and doors. In a typical primary suite, most people position a television opposite the bed. But in this case, the entire wall was occupied by glass windows and doors, making it impossible to place a TV without obstructing the stunning view and the custom Lutron drapery we had installed.
To overcome this hurdle, we devised an innovative solution comprising of a short-throw projector in the ceiling coupled with a projector screen that rolls up or down with just a simple touch of a Lutron seeTouch keypad. For an immersive audio experience, we opted for the Sonance Architectural series speakers, which not only delivered powerful sound but also seamlessly blended with the design of the space. While unconventional for a typical bedroom, this unique setup provided a private cinema that didn’t compromise the room’s design or its beautiful view. The big cinema experience is complete with a more than twenty foot span of motorized drapery to conceal the screen.
This room won a 2023 CE Pro HOTY Award for Best Primary Suite as evidence of its unique and ultimately successful implementation.
Illuminating the home
Lighting played a pivotal role in this project as the homeowners sought to go beyond mere illumination. Their objective was to elevate the home’s design with the art of lighting. Spearheading this endeavor was our Director of Smart Spaces, Aaron Stallings, whose exceptional work and experience with lighting design shines brightly throughout the entire residence. Nowhere is this more evident than in the master bedroom, where we incorporated Italian crystal downlighting by Leucos. The crystal faceted lenses produce distinctive lighting patterns, producing dramatic and captivating lighting scenes. Crystal pendants from Lee Broom were the perfect complement to these stunning recessed downlights.
Thanks to Lutron’s HomeWorks with Ecosystem and integration with Savant, lighting in the home is easily controlled with Lutron keypads or Savant Pro remotes, allowing the homeowner to control each light individually or entire rooms at the touch of a button.
A robust karaoke system
Understanding the homeowners’ passion for karaoke, we designed and implemented a custom system that can be used for private enjoyment or when hosting parties. This high-end setup features Shure microphones and receivers, ensuring crystal-clear vocal reproduction. For audio playback, we installed a premium Bowers & Wilkins system, delivering exceptional sound quality that transforms the space into a professional-grade karaoke venue. The interior designers conceived of a bespoke media cabinet to house aditional speakers and a sound control board to help achieve top-notch performance.
